Senior Motion Designer

New York, NY, United States Full Time

As a Senior Motion Designer, you will collaborate with other designers and strategists on large scale brand, innovation and culture projects.

On any given day, you could be designing animation intros or bumpers to robust animation shorts.

You are a strong individual contributor who can also work as part of a team and advance your ideas through collaboration.

As an expert in your field, you will be given the opportunity to help drive the growth of Lippincott’s motion design capability, leading thinking on how we can leverage motion design to meet our clients’ needs.

You’ll also have the opportunity to share your expertise by helping to train and develop our junior designers.


What you might do on a typical day:

  • Develop recommendations for design audits and help conduct client, category and industry research to identify insights to guide design criteria
  • Leaning on your experience with past work, develop creative solutions which respond to established design criteria - these will often include motion design solutions but may span a wide range of media
  • Explore, develop and refine solutions in collaboration with internal and client teams
  • Act as day-to-day contact for clients and involve client team in shaping and conducting work
  • Support and participate in client meetings and presentations
  • Manage external vendors as necessary
  • Assist in developing new business proposals and case studies
  • Act as mentor to junior staff, providing direction and assist in their development
  • Participate in recruiting and other firm building activities

What you bring:

  • Design related Bachelor’s degree from a leading design institution – postgraduate degree a plus
  • 5+ years of motion design experience with exposure to overseeing junior staff
  • Strong technical ability in AfterEffects and related design software (Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Experience with Cinema4D or other 3D design programs strongly encouraged
  • Experience with virtual / augmented reality design a plus
  • Ability to source compelling soundtrack audio
  • Ability to design and execute emotional, persuasive narratives across a range of subject matter
  • Demonstrated high quality/accuracy in design standards and high level of creativity
  • Ability to initiate conceptual level ideas toward problem solving
  • Interdisciplinary, open-minded approach to problem solving, demonstrating strong capacity for strategic and creative thinking
  • An understanding of various production methods/ability to identify appropriate process for any job according to budget and scheduling parameters
  • Ownership of specific tasks and probes more deeply when confronted with inconsistent and challenging findings
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to set priorities and manage time in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas
  • Ability to work well with and influence junior/middle-level client contacts
  • Ability to constructively participate as part of a project team at times taking a leadership role
  • Desire to proactively seek constructive feedback
  • Willingness and enthusiasm toward extending knowledge about technology/media, production process, design applications and working methods
  • Adaptable and flexible in meeting client and project needs
  • Ability to work well with multiple project managers and inspire confidence among project team members whilst working on multiple projects at any given time
  • Takes initiative to broaden and increase skill sets to accommodate various needs of the studio
